Rules & Information

SCHEDULE OF PERFORMANCES: All routines MUST perform on the day and session they are scheduled and in the age group they qualified in at regionals. Any routine that performs out of sequence will not be eligible for overall awards.

MUSIC: CD’s or iPod Touch/iPads are the only acceptable means of music playback. CD’s should state that they are audio format CD-R to guarantee compatibility. (Regular Media CD-R or CD-RW may not play in our equipment.) Labels will be provided for National events only and should be labeled with the following: Dance Studio name, Headliners studio code (located in the top right hand corner of your confirmation), title of music and routine number. All music should be brought backstage to the Announcer at the beginning of each session. Except for the National Title Championships, music may be picked up at the end of your performance. Contestants/studio representatives are responsible for picking up their music. Headliners is not responsible for any music not picked up.

CONTESTANT CHECK-IN: Contestants are required to check in with the Announcer backstage a minimum of 10 numbers prior to their performance.

THE CATEGORIES: Reminder - NO acrobatic tricks are allowed in ballet, pointe, or lyrical routines (lifts are permitted). One point per judge will be deducted for every acrobatic trick in any of the above categories.

TIME LIMITS: All routines at Nationals will be timed. Please be sure that all music is cut to the proper length. The length of the routine is determined from the first note of music to the last note of music. Routines that are overtime will receive a 5 point deduction for every 10 seconds or a portion thereof over the time limit.

SCORE SHEETS: Score sheets will be available to teachers only at the conclusion of all your students’ performances at the tabulator table.

VIDEO & PHOTOGRAPHY: All recording devices AND flash cameras are strictly prohibited at Headliner competitions. Cell phones will be allowed for use as telephone only (please put on vibrate during events). If anyone is found videotaping or using camera equipment at the National Championships the routine will immediately become ineligible for overall awards. It is the teacher’s responsibility to properly advise all students and their observers about these rules. All full service video and photography company will be on site to fulfill all of your DVD and Photography needs.

FOOD: Food and drink be restricted to the lobby areas. Please no food in the dressing areas or theater.

SMOKING: Smoking is not permitted in the theaters, ballrooms or dressing rooms.

AWARDS: Elite Gold, Gold, High Silver, Silver, High Bronze and Bronze winners will be announced at Awards ceremonies each day. Trophies, ribbons and special judge’s awards will be presented. One trophy will be awarded to each duo/trio, group, line or class. Additional trophies may be purchased after the awards ceremony.

PLATINUM CIRCLE CHAMPIONSHIP: Any routine that receives a score of 565 or higher (94 points or higher average score) will be announced as a finalist for the Platinum Circle Championship. All previous scores will be discarded and routines will compete against one another for a $5000 cash award.

CASH AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIPS: All cash awards and scholarships will be announced and presented at the Awards Banquet. Overall awards will be presented in 4 age divisions (Children, Junior, Teen, Senior). A minimum of 15 entries in each age division and category (solo, duo/trio, group, line, class) is required for cash awards to be presented. There must be 20 entries for 2nd place cash awards, and 25 entries for 3rd place cash awards. Cash award winners must be present at the Banquet to accept their award otherwise the award is forfeited.
