HEADLINERS POLICIES
ENTRY DEADLINE
Entries to all regional events should be postmarked or submitted online 30 days prior to the first day of competition. (National entry deadline is May 25th)

JUDGING CRITERIA
At Headliners, two evaluations are given:

Technique: Judges are required to be familiar with the basic techniques of the major dance disciplines - Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Modern, Acrobatic and Tap.  After evaluating the basic techniques, according to the age of the dancer, an evaluation is made.  There are also many items that may enter into each evaluation – ability to properly execute the movements, balance, control, stretch, fluidity, and musical timing. In addition, when it comes to the dancers ability to perform the choreography the following may is also considered - use of music and musical phrasing, use of space, dimensions or levels, appropriateness of the technical level for the age of the dancers, emotional content, age appropriate in concept, movement and style, creativity, and originality.

Presentation: The presentation score incorporates the following elements - appropriateness of costume, make up, grooming including hair, body and costume. Can costumes, tights and shoes, the dancer's ability to capture the audience, their personality, emotional execution, charisma, self-assuredness and enthusiasm, along with energy.

SCORING
Many competitions policies are to start awards at gold or have set-up the awards system so that lower scores (70’s and 80’s) still receive a gold or higher. At Headliners we want the dancers to feel good about themselves because they earned their award and achieved a goal. Our scoring is modeled after the letter grading system used by public schools and is as follows:

Three judges are allocated 200 points for a maximum score of 600 points

ELITE GOLD – 558-600 points (average score of 93 or higher – A+)
GOLD – 540-557 points (average score of 90-92 - A)
HIGH SILVER – 516-539 points (average of 86-89 – B+)
SILVER – 480-515 points (average score of 80-85 - B)
HIGH BRONZE – 456-479 points (average score of 76-79 – C+)

OVERALL AWARDS
In order to recognize as many dancers as possible, overalls are presented in four divisions:
Children (ages 9 & under)           Junior (ages 10-12)        Teen (ages 13-15)        Senior (ages 16&over)

Overall awards are presented to the top 10 soloists. The top 5 is announced in duo/trio, group, line and/or class for each division. Cash awards are presented to the top scoring routine in solo, duo/trio, group, line and class in all of the above divisions (a minimum of ten entries required). If there are not enough routines in both line and class they will be combined in order to offer the overall awards.
