TEAM USA SELECTION - HOW DO YOU BECOME ELIGIBLE??
Dancers/routines are nominated at every Headliners regional competition. Soloists, Duos, Small Groups, Formations and Productions that receive a Gold or Elite Gold award and fir within the Showdance requirements will become automatically eligible.
HOW AND WHEN DO WE QUALIFY FOR THE TEAM?
Nominated routines from the 2009 season will compete for final placement at the American Team Finals in Asbury Park, NJ on June 26, 2009. Dancers/routines will compete against all nominees for the 3-5 coveted places on Team USA in Female Solo, Male Solo, Duo, Group, Formation and Production in the 3 world divisions of Children (age 7-11), Junior (age 12-15) and Senior (age 16+).
INTERNATIONAL RULES: The US Finals is not a Headliners event. IDO rules apply and should be reviewed carefully. You are responsible for reading and adhering to the rules as they apply to your discipline. You will find a complete IDO Rules Book at the IDO web site: www.ido-dance.com
TIME LIMITS: International time limits differ from those commonly used in the USA. All routines selected to represent the USA must be witnin the time limits below for international competition. CD's are required.
Solos/Duos 1:45 minutes minimum to 2:15 maximum
Small Groups (3-7 dancers) 2:30 minutes minimum to 3:00 minutes maximum.
Formations (8-24 dancers) 2:30 minutes minimum to 4:00 minutes maximum.
Productions (25 or more dancers) 5:00 minutes min. to 12:00 minutes max.
CHOREOGRAPHY You are not required to dance the same piece that you qualified with. If you feel that you would like to create a stronger piece you may do so. Since the time limit is 4:00 minutes for formations you are encouraged to change your choreography accordingly.
PLACEMENT OF ROUTINES IN PROPER AGE DIVISIONS: A competitors age is determind as it falls within the calendar year (ie: if you are going to be 12 on July 1st, then you are considered 12 the entire year). The International event requires that all dancers in a group or formation be the age of the division they are entered. Older dancers may never dance in a younger division with the following exceptions:
DUOS: The eldest partners date of birth determines the age division. The younger dancer cannot be more then 3 years younger then their partner (ie: 10 & 13).
GROUPS AND FORMATIONS: a dancer no more than two years younger then the lowest age may dance in an older division (ie: Juniors are 12-15. No dancer under 10 can participate in those routines). 50% or more of the dancers must fall within the specified age division.
PRODUCTIONS: the only category where dancers of all ages may perform together. A minimum of 25 dancers required in this category.
SUBSTITUTION OF DANCERS You may substitute no more than 50% of a duo, small group, formation or production. If you qualify a small group of 5, you may fill the additional number of dancers permitted, so you may add 2. The same applies for Formation.
LICENSE: All dancers entering in IDO World events are required to have the following:
USA License $10.00 per year made out to USDSF (United States Dancesport Federation). This fee should be submitted with American Team Finals entries.
